A unique coffee table representative of 1980s French postmodern design, which revives the geometric elegance of Art Deco through an original combination of materials and volumes. Its structure features four large wooden spheres painted using the trompe-l’œil technique, reproducing the pink hues and white veins of marble with a striking illusionistic effect. These rest on stepped bases of clear methacrylate that evoke small pyramids. The entire piece rests on a mirrored platform and supports a large smoked-glass top. The interplay between reflective surfaces, transparencies, and finishes that mimic fine materials creates an appealing interplay of depth and visual lightness.
Eric Maville was active in the field of French furniture and interior design during the 1970s and 1980s. His creations are characterized by the use of mirrored surfaces, synthetic materials, and refined geometries, in keeping with the aesthetic of luxury furniture of the era. His work is associated with firms such as Roche Bobois, founded in 1960 and now one of the leading names in contemporary French design.
