The Bach series, designed in 1970 by Federico Correa and Alfonso Milá, is a prominent example of the renewal of Spanish lighting design during the second half of the 20th century. Originally produced by Polinax and later reissued by Gres and Santa & Cole, it combines the geometric austerity of the modernist movement with a warm and functional approach to lighting.
The Bach Menor version stands out for its compact proportions and architectural structure, consisting of a square base from which emerges a metal plate with a broken profile, attached to the vertical support of the shade. The boldness of its lines is a hallmark of its design, contrasting with the softness of the velvety fabric. This combination of materials and geometries reflects the designers’ interest in integrating lighting as an essential part of the interior space.
Federico Correa and Alfonso Milá were two key figures in postwar Catalan architecture and interior design. Trained alongside José Antonio Coderch, they founded their studio in 1953 and pursued a prolific career that spanned architecture, furniture design, and interior design. Among their best-known projects are the Barcelona restaurants Flash-Flash and Il Giardinetto, as well as the Atalaya building. Their work was recognized with several FAD awards, and their documentary legacy is preserved in the Historical Archive of the Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya.
