BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

In the style of JEAN-MICHEL FRANK (Paris, 1895 – New York, 1941).
Table lamp, ca. 1940–1950.
Olive-green glass. Antique shade made of flexible material with visible seams.
Glass base in very good condition. Lampshade has stains and variations in tone. Wiring has been replaced.
Measurements: 55 cm total height × 36 cm shade diameter.

Table lamp with an olive-green glass base, featuring an irregular shape and a mineral-like appearance. Its angular surfaces alternate between rough and polished areas, creating reflections and varying degrees of transparency depending on the thickness of the material. The antique shade, with its warm tone and visible seams, creates a contrast between the visual lightness of the shade and the sculptural mass of the base. The simplicity of the composition and the prominence of the textures evoke the decorative sensibility of Jean-Michel Frank.

Jean-Michel Frank was a French furniture designer and interior decorator, renowned for his interiors from the 1920s and 1930s and considered a precursor of minimalism. His style is characterized by simple lines, neutral tones, and the prominence of materials such as parchment, leather, shagreen, and straw marquetry. He developed a concept of understated luxury based on proportions, textures, and the quality of craftsmanship. He collaborated with cabinetmaker Adolphe Chanaux and with Hermès, leaving a lasting influence on contemporary interior design.
