This collector’s edition brings together fifty watercolors created by Salvador Dalí in 1966 to illustrate *The Thousand and One Nights*, one of the most celebrated collections of stories in world literature. The illustrations, originally conceived as part of an ambitious publishing project, remained unpublished for decades until their release by Enciclopèdia Catalana in 2014, in a carefully crafted limited edition of 999 copies.
The fantastical and evocative world of these Eastern tales finds a unique interpretation in Dalí’s surrealist language, characterized by imaginative freedom, symbolism, and chromatic expressiveness. The fifty compositions reproduce the original watercolors while respecting their format and allow viewers to appreciate the artist’s unique vision of a literary repertoire marked by fantasy, eroticism, and transformation. The volume is complemented by a scholarly essay that contextualizes the origin and development of the project.
Salvador Dalí was one of the key figures of Surrealism and one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. His body of work spanned painting, sculpture, printmaking, film, and design, developing a visual universe of extraordinary originality. Among his most iconic works is *The Persistence of Memory* (1931). His work is represented in institutions such as MoMA in New York, the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, and the Dalí Theater-Museum in Figueres.
