Etruscan-Corinthian pottery is one of the most representative forms of production from the Orientalizing period in Etruria. Developed from models imported from Corinth, it adapted its forms, techniques, and ornamental repertoires to the tastes of workshops on the Italian peninsula. Etruscan imitations and reinterpretations of these vessels became widely popular between the late 7th and 6th centuries B.C.

The ariballos was a vessel typically used to hold perfumed oils. Its wide, flat rim facilitated application, while the narrow neck allowed for controlled dispensing of a product considered valuable; the handle served to carry or suspend it.

This example features a pear-shaped body decorated with a large bird in profile, whose wings are rendered with fine incised lines. Rosettes, dots, and other secondary motifs fill the empty spaces, following the characteristic Corinthian ornamental principle of densely covering the surface. The dark silhouette, the engraved details, and the traces of a reddish hue demonstrate the Etruscan adaptation of the black-figure technique. The animal motifs and fill patterns reveal the intense exchange of models between Greece and Etruria during the Archaic period.
