BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Pair of vases, Japan, Edo period, eighteenth century.
Bronze and cloisonné enamel.
Slight damage on the base of one of them. One of them is missing the inner part of the base.
Measurements: 45 x 27 x 26 cm (the largest).
Pair of Japanese vases from the Edo period, one of them slightly smaller than the other. The vases, in bronze, have been decorated with the cloisonné enamel technique, depositing the vitreous paste of the enamel in compartments formed by metal sheets that, in relief, form a design of great chromatic hallmarks and attractive qualities. A profusion of floral motifs are combined with grecados that structure the design on three levels. The cloisonné is developed in the central part of the belly, continuing on the shoulders. The shoulders carry two rings hanging from butterflies worked in relief. The Edo period is a historical period in Japan from 1603 to 1868. Two centuries in which Japan's trade with foreign powers developed. Activity that gave rise to a cultural exchange and a greater interest, on the part of foreigners, in the country. In such a way that the exchange of artistic objects that reflected the aesthetics of the country, which to foreign eyes was so unique due to a great lack of knowledge, proliferated.
