DESCRIPTION
Censer; China Yuan-Ming dynasty, XIV century.
Enameled porcelain type Longquan celadon.

Measurements: 7 x 13 x 13 cm.
Censer made of enameled porcelain celadon type that stands on three legs and has a circular body. The celadon is very popular in Asia, since it allows to obtain the color of jade, the sacred stone. Chinese craftsmen reproduced the ancient bronzes, so they abandoned the ocher color for a creamy green that magnifies their masterpieces, it is the famous color now associated with the name celadon. The golden age of celadon extended from the 11th to the 14th century in China during the Song and Yuan dynasties, the former ruling China from 960 to 1279.
Longquan is the name of a city in China, famous for two cultural products: the Longquan celadon, a type of pottery with a green glaze that is fired at high temperatures and whose process was included by UNESCO in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and Longquan swords, recognized worldwide for their high quality, design and traditional blacksmithing techniques used in their manufacture.
The Yuan-Ming dynasty does not exist as such, but refers to the transitional period when the Yuan dynasty, of Mongol origin, was overthrown in 1368 by the peasant Zhu Yuanzhang, who founded the Ming dynasty, which ruled China until 1644. The Ming dynasty represented the return of Han rule, the majority ethnic group in China, and was characterized by a cultural, artistic and economic boom.
