DESCRIPTION
"Minogame turtles on a rock". Meiji era, Japan, third third of the 19th century.
Bronze group.
Signed.
Sculptural group in patinated bronze, signed, representing two minogame turtles on a rock formation modeled with great naturalism. The composition combines technical virtuosity and decorative sensitivity, typical of Japanese production in the Meiji period, when bronzes reached an exceptional quality for both the domestic and export markets.
The turtle motif, a traditional symbol of longevity, stability and good omen, reinforces the auspicious character of the piece, conceived as an object of contemplation and refinement. The richness of the patina, the detail in the textures of the shell and the balance between figure and support place the work within the best tradition of 19th century Japanese ornamental sculpture.
