MONTSERRAT GUDIOL COROMINA (Barcelona, 1933 - 2015).

In this intimate and sober composition, as it is usual in the portraits of the artist, the figure emerges from an atmospheric and veiled background. The delicate modeling of light and shadow, together with the stylization of the forms and the introspective gesture, evoke the sense of solitude and inner reflection that often appears in the artist's work. Made in a period of maturity in her career, the drawing reflects Gudiol's mastery of line and tone, as well as her ability to convey emotion with minimal means.
Montserrat Gudiol had her first solo exhibition at the Casino de Ripoll and in 1954 she made her international debut with an exhibition at the Miami Museum. Throughout her career she exhibited in galleries and museums in Europe, the United States, Japan and South Africa, including exhibitions at the Sala Gaspar in Barcelona, the Tamenaga Gallery in Tokyo, Au Molin de Vauboyen in Paris and Walton-Gilbert in San Francisco.
In 1981 she became the first woman to join the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi and in 1998 she received the Cross of Sant Jordi from the Generalitat de Catalunya. Her work is part of important collections, among them the MACBA, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao and several international museums.
