DESCRIPTION

ARNE JACOBSEN (Denmark, 1902-1971) & PIET HEIN (1905-1996) para Fritz Hansen.

The Super Ellipse tabletop adopts a super ellipse shape, a mathematical figure that is between an ellipse and a rectangle with smoothed corners. This eliminates the straight ends and creates a curved, harmonious silhouette. This peculiar shape means that there is no clear "headboard", offering a more "democratic" experience around the table, where all diners have the same relationship to the surface. The concept of the shape comes from Piet Hein, based on a mathematical solution initially used in a traffic circle in Stockholm (Sergels Torg). The smooth, continuous curve gives it an organic and elegant look, compatible with contemporary or sober classical interiors.

The collaboration between Arne Jacobsen and Piet Hein for Fritz Hansen is one of the most interesting in 20th century Danish design, because it unites architecture and industrial design (Jacobsen) with mathematics and poetry (Hein).

The Danish company Fritz Hansen, founded in 1872, manufactures original, unique, functional and innovative contemporary design furniture. It manufactures its products at its facilities in northern Copenhagen, making each piece in close collaboration with internationally renowned designers and architects. Its collection includes the Egg and Swan chairs, the Series 7 chair, the Ant chair and the Oxford chair by designer Arne Jacobsen, as well as tables and armchairs designed by Danish designers Piet Hein and Poul Kjaerholm.
