DESCRIPTION
WILLY DARO (Belgium, active between the 1950s and 1990s).
Table lamp, ca. 1970.
Polished bronze and agate.
Measurements: 57 x 26 x 12,5 cm (foot); 36 x 50 x 35 cm (lampshade).
Table lamp made around 1970, with sculptural structure in polished bronze and central agate application. The piece presents the characteristic aesthetic imprint of Willy Daro's works, especially for the use of noble materials, the combination of shiny metal and semiprecious stone, and an ornamental conception of great dynamism.
The body is resolved by means of a curved and ascending form that envelops the mineral section, creating a refined contrast between the brightness of the bronze and the chromatic depth of the agate. The agate, suspended in the center of the structure, acts as a visual and dramatic focus, in keeping with the decorative taste of the 1960s and 1970s.
Owner of Les Nouveaux Ateliers, Willy Daro worked in Brussels between 1960 and 1987. His pieces, elegant and full of movement, are characterized by the use of polished metals, minerals and semi-precious stones, especially agate, very present in European decorative design of the period.
