IB KOFOD-LARSEN (Denmark, 1921 - 2003).
Elisabeth" armchair.

Measurements: 75 x 70 x 78 cm,
The "Elizabeth" armchair, designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen, is one of the most emblematic pieces of Scandinavian design of the mid-20th century and an extraordinary example of Danish mastery in the creation of organic and refined furniture. Characterized by its sculpted wooden frame and elegant armrests with flowing lines, this armchair combines visual lightness, constructive sophistication and exceptional comfort.
Ib Kofod-Larsen was one of the most prominent designers of the golden generation of Danish design. Active mainly during the 1950s and 1960s, he developed a body of work marked by organic forms and a deep understanding of wood craftsmanship. Although much of his output was destined for the Swedish market, where his designs were too innovative for the prevailing taste of the time, his creations achieved significant recognition in Denmark thanks to his collaboration with prestigious manufacturers such as Christensen & Larsen and Faarup Møbelfabrik.
The history of the Elizabeth armchair is closely linked to the British royal family. During an official visit to Denmark in 1958, the then Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip purchased a pair of these armchairs, originally known as model U56. As a result of this episode, the piece became popularly known as the "Elizabeth Chair", the name by which it achieved international fame and became one of Kofod-Larsen's most recognized works.
Now considered an iconic piece of Scandinavian modernism, the Elizabeth Chair is highly prized by collectors and design lovers for its extraordinary craftsmanship, historical relevance and the timelessness of its formal language. More than six decades after its creation, it remains an undisputed benchmark of 20th century Nordic design.
