DESCRIPTION
VICO MAGISTRETTI (Milan, 1920 – Milan, 2006), for Artemide
“Clitunno” floor lamp, designed in 1963.
Version in bronze finish and opal glass.
In very good condition.
Measurements: 168 x 50 x 50 cm.
The floor lamp designed by Vico Magistretti in 1963 belongs to a particularly prolific period in Italian design, during which domestic lighting was revitalized through minimalist forms, modern materials, and a renewed focus on the atmosphere of the space.
Its structure is reduced to a composition of great clarity: a circular base, a vertical shaft, and an opal glass shade with a gently rounded profile. The bronze-finished edition offers a warmer and more sophisticated touch compared to other, more technical versions, while the opal glass diffuses an enveloping, serene, and very balanced light.
The “Clitunno” epitomizes his approach to design: functional, discreet, and refined objects capable of blending into a space without sacrificing their own distinct presence.
Vico Magistretti was one of the leading figures in 20th-century Italian design. An architect and designer, he collaborated with firms such as Artemide, Cassina, Oluce, De Padova, and Kartell, creating pieces that are now part of the history of modern design. His work is represented in institutions such as MoMA in New York, the Triennale di Milano, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
