DESCRIPTION
EUGENIO GERLI (Milan, 1923–2013) for Tecno, Italy.
Set of four PS142 armchairs, 1966
Metal frame, with original upholstery in geometric-patterned fabric.
In very good condition, with minimal signs of use.
Measurements: 68 x 68 x 60 cm.
The uniqueness of the PS142 armchair lies in the cutout at the center of its backrest, which conforms perfectly to the user’s back, forming two mirror-image sections. It is a comfortable and functional, enveloping armchair that reflects the aesthetic principles of the Italian mid-century avant-garde.
An Italian architect and designer trained at the Polytechnic University of Milan, Eugenio Gerli had a prolific career in industrial design and architecture, collaborating closely with the firm Tecno. The creator of iconic pieces such as the S83 chair, the PS142 armchair, and the Graphis system, his work reflects the synthesis of functionality and modernity characteristic of 20th-century Italian design. His creations are part of major international collections and are housed in institutions such as the Milan Triennale, the Centre Pompidou, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
