European school of the late nineteenth century.
"Dionysus".
Marble.
Measurements: 143 x 50 x 40 cm.
We are before a sculptural representation of Dionysus, resolved in neoclassical style. The figure, of harmonious proportions, presents the god of the vine and of the ecstasy in his beardless youth, concentrated in his action. With his right arm raised, he holds a bunch of grapes that he contemplates with rapture, while in his left hand he holds another, thus balancing the composition with natural symmetry.
The posture of the god responds to the classical canons: a slightly bent leg brings dynamism to the whole, without breaking the idealized composure of the body. A short tunic, made of calfskin, is fastened to his waist with a ribbon, exposing a shoulder and part of the leg. His head is crowned with garlands of vine leaves that reinforce the Bacchic iconography.
The face of the young god is delineated with refined features: straight nose, well-defined and half-open lips. His eyes are directed with soft elevation towards the fruit he holds, while his wavy hair falls with studied carelessness.
