Measurements: 82 x 57 x 57 cm.
Italian candlestick, made around 1800 in carved Carrara marble. It is a remarkable example of neoclassical furniture. The piece has a stylized structure, supported by a single stipe-shaped leg, a characteristic resource of the furniture of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, which refers to the classical architectural tradition.
The upper area is adorned with the carving of a child's face with delicate features, framed by curly hair intertwined with branches, an unmistakable symbol of the Bacchic theme. This iconographic detail connects the piece with the imagery of the god Bacchus and his cult, associated with fertility, wine and celebration, very much in tune with the neoclassical taste for the recovery of Greco-Roman mythology.
In the case of the round top, a carved ornamentation can also be seen, with grapes on the outer perimeter, lacerias and in the center a large tondo with the face of an infant crowned with branches and grapes, in harmony with the carving located in the upper part of the leg.
