This sculptural work by Aldo Chaparro is located at a point of convergence between matter, gesture and reflection on contemporary form. Chaparro has developed a plastic language characterized by experimentation with industrial materials, mainly stainless steel and aluminum, which he transforms through processes of twisting, folding and beating, to convert the rigidity of the metal into surfaces charged with dynamism and vitality.
His sculptures, far from seeking formal perfection, capture the instant of impact and the energy of the body in action, establishing a tension between control and accident. The brightness of his pieces, which reflects the environment and the viewer, introduces a participatory dimension: the work does not close in on itself, but incorporates the reality that surrounds it, becoming changeable according to light, movement or point of view. Chaparro thus turns sculpture into a field of visual and emotional resonance, where matter becomes a testimony of the creative act.
Aldo Chaparro is a Mexican/Peruvian artist whose work focuses on the use of sculpture and painting to explore form in post-industrial forms. Currently living and working between Mexico City, Los Angeles, Madrid and Lima, Chaparro explores form through emptiness, matter and the human body using rapid processes to transform prefabricated materials into unique objects. Using elements commonly used for construction, he creates forms in equilibrium by manipulating and subtracting matter.
On the dividing line between Design and Art, Aldo Chaparro finds the perfect field to explore and expand the boundaries that separate the latter from other disciplines, making this edge his central theme. As a conceptual artist, his work can be placed on the border between pure functionalism and art.
The artist combines and edits references from the world of media, leaving aside notions of past and future, to result in a present full of simultaneity and entertainment. Quoting and appropriating the work of different artists, and borrowing phrases from pop songs, he creates a staging of words and sentences that surprise by their catchy familiarity in almost invasive and innovative supports, such as neon sculptures or large format texts on walls that shout profanities and questions, and allow the viewer to find personal references in the artist's work.
