DESCRIPTION
Monumental mortar. Italy, XVII century.
Hand carved marble.
Patina and wear consistent with the period.
Measurements: 30 x 50 x 50 cm.
This jardinière, of deep mythological inspiration, is articulated by means of four masks in high relief with effigies of fauns. These elements not only fulfill an aesthetic function as the backbone of the piece, but also a technical one, by integrating discreet openings for drainage. The virtuosity of the carving stands out, visible in the naturalistic resolution of the ram's horns, the expressiveness of the features and the detailing of the beards. The decorative program is completed with four panels in bas-relief with genre themes, which offer a refined visual chronicle of hunting and rural life.
