Elo Vega is a Spanish visual artist whose professional and academic career is located at the crossroads between contemporary artistic practice, critical research and feminist commitment. Her production has been oriented to investigate the social, political and gender dimensions of visual culture.
Initially trained in artistic ceramics, she studied at the Escuela de Artes Aplicadas y Oficios Artísticos in Huelva and Seville between 1986 and 1991, to later broaden her university education. She obtained a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Castilla-La Mancha in 2007, completing a Diploma of Advanced Studies in the doctoral program New Cultural and Artistic Practices in 2009. In 2015 she achieved a PhD degree in the official Research in Arts and Humanities program at the same university. She also completed the Pedagogical Aptitude Course at the University of Huelva.
Throughout her career, she has enjoyed numerous scholarships that have allowed her to develop projects and perfect her training in different international contexts, including the École Régionale des Beaux-Arts de Nantes (France), the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Mexico), the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in Tijuana and the Gender Studies Program of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. This journey culminates, among other distinctions, with the AECID-MAEC Scholarship for artistic residence at the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome, obtained in 2021.
Her work and research have materialized in exhibition and collective pedagogy projects aimed at exploring the narratives of memory, the construction of history and contemporary identities. These proposals have been presented in a wide repertoire of reference institutions in Europe and Latin America, such as the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo in Seville, the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the MACBA in Barcelona, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the IVAM in Valencia, the MUSAC in León, Es Baluard Museu d'Art Contemporani in Palma de Mallorca or the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Santiago de Chile, among other spaces.
