Although it is not possible to find much information about the author of this work, the title page of the book indicates that he was a doctor of medicine from the Faculty of Paris, a member of the Royal Academy of Medicine and professor of Natural History at the Royal Athenaeum of Paris. The work is translated by Antonio Bergnes de las Casas (Barcelona, 1801- 1879), Spanish philologist, Hellenist and editor, rector of the University of Barcelona. In this set of three volumes J.J. Virrey makes a study on the questions of the human genus, dealing with topics such as anatomy or even the system of castes and races.
