DESCRIPTION

The world deceived by false doctors. Speeches by Dr. Josef Gazola.
Valencia, Salvador Faulí, 1765.
In period flexible parchment, with remains of closures.
Posthumous work.
Measurements: 15.5 x 10.5 x 2 cm.

Interesting medical and critical treatise entitled El mundo engañado por los falsos médicos, posthumous work by Dr. Josef Gazola, Veronese physician and academic, printed in Valencia in 1765. The text is part of the enlightened medical literature of the eighteenth century, characterized by a critical attitude towards professional intrusion and pseudoscientific practices that proliferated in the field of medicine.

The work is structured in the form of speeches in which the author denounces the abuses, errors and deceptions committed by false doctors, barbers and quacks, defending a medical practice based on academic knowledge and rational observation. A dialogue by the Magnificent Gentleman Pedro Megía is added to the volume, expanding the moral and didactic content of the work.

The copy presents original binding in flexible parchment, with evident signs of use and passage of time, consistent with a reference work. The spine retains traces of handwritten labeling identifying the author. Interior in good general condition, with laid paper, clear typography and generous margins, with light stains and darkening typical of the period. Complete title page, with imprint indicating license and place of sale next to the Real Colegio del Venerable Señor Patriarca de Valencia.

A work of notable historical and bibliographical interest, both for its medical-critical content and for its value as a testimony of enlightened thought in 18th century Spain. An attractive copy for collectors of antique books on medicine, history of science and enlightened thought, especially in original period binding.
