DESCRIPTION
A pair of 19th-century Neo-Gothic candelabra.
Bronze.
Measurements: 197 x 85.5 cm.
The candelabra, which are identical in design, rise from an architectural base featuring large Gothic windows, supported by a Solomonic baluster. The main body features two side arms decorated with openwork Gothic fleurons. The piece is topped by a candle holder designed to hold the candles. Both the dimensions and the intricate ornamentation, featuring openwork and incised motifs, evoke the grand candelabra used to illuminate churches and noble residences throughout the 14th and 15th centuries. In the late 19th and 20th centuries, historicist movements revisited these historical styles, updating and revaluing them.
