Alfredo Souto studied law and painting, starting out in art as a disciple of Román Navarro in La Coruña. He took part in the National Fine Arts Exhibitions, where he won two decorations (1899 and 1901) and two third medals (1891 and 1895), always with landscapes of the places where he lived as a magistrate. Occasionally he lived in Lugo and La Coruña, and from 1920 in Seville. His trace is lost in the last years of his long life, as he died in 1940 when his son Arturo, also a painter, was in exile in Mexico after the Civil War. Souto Cuervo's work can be found in museums in Galicia and other cities in Spain, as well as in important collections such as that of Caixanova.
