BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Pair of Louis XVI style lamps; early twentieth century.
Marble and bronze.
Electrified.
Measurements: 32 x 15 cm; 61 cm (total height).
Set consisting of two Louis XVI style table lamps with pleated fabric shades in red. Both have the same design with marble shaft decorated with bronze appliques. This reproduces a Louis XVI style cup or vase in marbled marble and decorated with bronze applications. The piece stands on a marble pedestal of square format, on which rests a circular molded foot that ends in stylized leaves that serve as a base for the body of the vase. The vessel is decorated, at the height of the shoulders, with a gilded frieze-like applique adorned with a procession of little loves in relief. Finally, each of the vases has warped handles of classicist inspiration. The burnished gilding of the bronzes harmonizes with the natural beauty of the marble in sienna and ochre tones. The ensemble manages to maintain the classical rigor while leaving room for the ornamental fantasy so much to the taste of the bourgeois clientele of the time.
