Created around 1925, the wall sconces combine a wrought-iron structure with an amber-colored glass shade, whose warm glow is a hallmark of its sculptural strength compared to the metal. Brandt enriches the composition with extraordinary openwork forging, characterized by delicate plant scrollwork and stylized geometric ornamentation that reflects the decorative language of Art Deco, where artisanal tradition merges with formal modernity.
The relationship between Edgar Brandt and Daum was one of the most fruitful collaborations in French design during the 1920s and 1930s. Both played an active role in the renewal of the decorative arts that gained momentum after World War I and achieved international recognition at the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris, the event that gave the Art Deco movement its name. While Brandt conceived sophisticated wrought-iron structures of extraordinary technical quality, Daum contributed his exceptional mastery of artistic glass, producing lampshades and lighting elements that integrated perfectly with the metal designs. The result was lighting fixtures of great aesthetic balance, in which the transparency and rich colors of the glass interact with the sculptural expressiveness of the iron.
