Oil on canvas.

Oval portrait of a female saint, identifiable, although without conclusive attributes, as a probable Saint Catherine of Alexandria, a recurring figure in devotional painting for its idealized beauty and symbolic charge. The face of the saint is presented three-quarter length, with a vanishing gaze directed towards the sky. The eyes, large and moist, have a tearful glow that insinuates ecstatic devotion. One of the most refined elements of the portrait is the use of pearl trim, which appears in the hair, the jewelry and the brocade of the neck, elaborated with meticulous care. The pearls, a traditional symbol of purity and virginity, reinforce the identification of the figure with a virgin martyr like Saint Catherine. In addition, their soft luster echoes the treatment of the leather and velvet, unifying the visual texture in an atmosphere of sacred opulence. The velvet of the sleeves, in rich folds, introduces a tactile, sensual dimension that enhances the preciousness of the composition.
