BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Flemish school of the seventeenth century.

This Flemish still life, in its celebration of the fruit opulence, displays before the look profusion of fruits that overflow of wicker baskets and copper trays. A curtain gathered at the upper end generates a subtle theatrical effect, typically baroque.
Thus, under this gathered canopy, rest the shiny trays whose coppery reflections contrast with the chromatic richness of green pears, velvety-skinned apricots and green apples. The wicker baskets are woven with sober rusticity. The organization of the pieces responds to a studied carelessness. An open fig, showing the pulp, is a prelude to decadence, a prototypical element of the symbolism of baroque still lifes. The center of the composition is occupied by a small ceramic or pewter jar, delicately worked, overflowing with dark blackberries, whose deep tonality, between black and purple, provides a visual counterpoint of dramatic intensity.
