Dreamlike landscape populated with birds of different species. The author of this painting takes up again the dynamic still life model of the baroque period. The painter focuses on the expressiveness of the animals, as well as on the bucolic description of the lake landscape with hints of classical ruins.
During the 18th century, bird painting acquired a prominent place in European artistic production, at a time when scientific observation and naturalistic collecting were in full swing. The Enlightenment promoted a systematic curiosity for the natural world, and birds, because of their formal and chromatic diversity, became a privileged subject for both scientists and artists.
