BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

European School of the XVIII century.
"Still life with fruits and flowers".
Oil on canvas.
In good state of preservation. Relined. Presents general darkening typical of the time.
Measurements: 63 x 81 cm, 9 x 97 cm (frame).

This still life presents a rich composition of fruits and flowers arranged with scenographic sense on a horizontal surface, following a typology fully established in the European painting of the XVIII century. The scene is articulated through the accumulation of natural elements - grapes, pears, apples, various fruits and flowers - organized in baskets and containers, creating a play of volumes, textures and colors that energizes the whole.

The lighting, directed and contrasted, falls on the main objects, highlighting the fleshiness of the fruits and the delicacy of the floral petals against a dark and atmospheric background. This resource, heir to the Baroque chiaroscuro, accentuates the sensorial character of the still life, emphasizing both the materiality of the objects and their symbolic charge, linked to abundance, transience and the passage of time.

During the 18th century, the European still life underwent an evolution that combined the heritage of Baroque naturalism with a greater chromatic softness and a more refined decorative taste. In this context, the Flemish and Dutch tradition, with its attention to detail and tactile qualities, coexisted with French and Italian contributions that introduced more elegant and balanced compositions, as well as a more pictorial treatment of light and color. The work in question falls fully within this stylistic framework, showing a solid technical mastery and a sensibility in keeping with the tastes of enlightened Europe.
