Spanish painter framed in the denominated Sorrowful Generation, name with which is known to a group of promising painters of Galicia of the XIX century, all of them died of tuberculosis around 1900 when they were around 30 years old and were in the beginning of their artistic maturity, Joaquín Vaamonde was formed with Modesto Brocos. Later he traveled to America, where he acquired his own style. On his return to Spain he met the writer Emilia Pardo Bazán, at that time an outstanding writer and public figure in Spanish literature. His involvement was such that the writer made him the protagonist of La Quimera (1905). His work is currently preserved in the Prado Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts of La Coruña and the Museum of Pontevedra, as well as in other Galician museums.
