In this landscape, Gimeno offers an intensely expressive vision of nature, built from a thick and vibrant brushstroke. The scene, dominated by ochre, yellow and orange tones, suggests an autumnal environment in which the pictorial matter acquires absolute prominence. The trees in the foreground, treated with impetuous gesture, frame the composition and lead the eye towards a building in the background, barely hinted at, which provides depth and balance.

Francisco Gimeno is considered a key figure in the transition to modern painting in Catalonia. Initially trained in Barcelona, he broadened his artistic experience in Paris, where he came into contact with impressionism and post-impressionist trends. He died in 1927 after being honored in the Sala Parés, his work today occupies a place of honor in institutions such as the Prado Museum, the MNAC and the MACBA.
