DESCRIPTION

FAUST MORELL I BELLET (Palma, 1851-1928)
"Marina".
Oil on canvas.
Presents restorations.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 68,5 x 100,5 cm; 80 x 120 cm (frame).
This painting by Faust Morell represents a coastal scene full of atmosphere and realism. In the foreground, a woman seated next to a beached boat holds fishing nets, surrounded by baskets and seafaring utensils. Her pensive gesture and collected posture contrast with the activity in the background, where several fishermen struggle against the waves to pull the boat to shore. Morell captures with great sensitivity the strength of the sea and the harshness of seafaring life. The palette, dominated by earthy tones and muted blues, reinforces the sensation of wind and humidity. The loose and vibrant brushstroke brings movement to the waves and the sky, while the female figure introduces a point of intimacy and humanity in the midst of the rugged landscape.
Trained in painting with his father, the painter Faust Morell Orlandis, and in the workshops of Joan Mestre Bosque, Joan O'Neille and Joan Bauzà, Faust Morell participated in various exhibitions for the society of the Promotion of Painting and Sculpture in Palma de Mallorca and also for other institutions. He was a full member of the Provincial Academy of Fine Arts of Palma and a corresponding member of the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. His works are kept in the City Hall of Palma, the Consell Insular de Mallorca, the Episcopal Palace of Mallorca, the Modernist Museum Can Prunera, the Hotel Son Vida of Palma and the Royal Palace of Madrid and some paintings in private collections.
