Spanish school of the XIX century
"Roosters in the corral".
Oil on panel.
Measurements: 1 x 21 cm, 31 x 36 cm (frame).
The work represents a lively barnyard scene starring several hens, roosters and chicks arranged in a partially open natural environment. The birds, of varied and carefully differentiated plumage, are distributed in the space generating a balance between dynamism and compositional order. In the center, an upright rooster stands out, while around him other birds are grouped in everyday attitudes: pecking the ground, watching or protecting the little ones. On the right, a nest with chicks introduces a motif of life and continuity, while at the top, branches with red fruits add a decorative and chromatic element that frames the scene.
The dark background, characteristic of the Flemish tradition, contrasts with the illuminated areas where the light falls on the bodies of the birds, highlighting the texture of the plumage with a precise but loose brushstroke. The chromatic palette is articulated around warm brown, ochre and reddish tones, with bright accents in the crests and fruits, which bring liveliness to the whole. The composition combines an enclosed, shady space with a side opening that suggests depth and connection to the outside.
