DESCRIPTION
XANO ARMENTER (Las Palmas, 1956).
"Golden lux. New York, 1998.
Acrylic on canvas.
Signed, dated and titled.
Measurements: 173 x 173 cm.
In "Golden lux", Xano Armenter displays a large format painting where color and compositional rhythm act as structural axes. The work is articulated from a dense superposition of organic forms and chromatic stains that evoke a luminous and vibrant, almost urban atmosphere.
Created during his New York period, the piece reflects the influence of the energy of the city and abstract expressionism, but filtered through a personal, intuitive and gestural language. The pictorial space is not organized hierarchically, but as a continuous field of tensions, where light -suggested rather than represented- becomes pictorial matter.
"Golden lux" is thus situated within one of the most expansive moments of Armenter's production, in which painting is conceived as a sensorial and physical experience, open to interpretation and the movement of the gaze.
Trained in Barcelona and later established in New York, Xano Armenter has developed a solid international career. He has had solo exhibitions in venues such as Sala Parés and Galeria Àmbit (Barcelona), Círculo de Bellas Artes (Madrid), Centre Cultural Terrassa, Castell de Benedormiens, as well as in galleries in Miami, Los Angeles and Tokyo.
He has participated in group exhibitions and reference fairs such as the Fundació Miró, the Armory Show in New York and ARCO Madrid, as well as showing his work in institutions in Europe, the United States and Japan.
His work is part of collections such as Fundació Eina (Barcelona) and La Bib Collection - La Santa Projectos Culturales, consolidating his presence in the contemporary art scene.
