DESCRIPTION
JOSÉ BARDASANO BAOS (Madrid, 1910 - 1979)
"Hunger".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 59 × 68.5 cm; 84 × 74 cm (frame).
The work is part of the most expressive side of the production of José Bardasano, moving away from his more luminous compositions to enter a scene of strong dramatic charge. The composition transmits an intense emotional tension, accentuated by the exaggerated gestures and the ascending disposition of the bodies.
José Bardasano Baos was a painter and poster artist trained at the School of Arts and Crafts in Madrid. He stood out early, winning prizes at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts and scholarships that allowed him to travel around Europe. After the Civil War he went into exile in Mexico, where he developed an intense artistic activity in Latin America. He returned to Spain in 1960, receiving numerous awards throughout his career. His work is represented in collections such as the Museo del Prado (on deposit at the Museo de Bellas Artes de Castellón).
