Chilean painter Paulo Escobar-Elorza lives and works in Barcelona. He has exhibited repeatedly in this city and in other parts of Spain, Chile and the USA. His oil painting is highly evocative, making it a "meeting place" with the viewer: "I understand painting as an instrument of evocation. A sort of secret passageway capable of connecting us with images, sensations and experiences stored and hidden for a long time in our memory"; "I like to imagine that mechanism of interiorization that takes place in the spectator, because I believe that it is at that moment when the solitary exercise of pictorial creation makes sense. From one intimacy to another in the silence of those worlds that never move". Among his solo exhibitions we mention those held at: Contrast Gallery in Barcelona (2012, "Zibaldone"; 2009, "Sprezzatura"); at the Museu d'Art Modern de Tarragona ("En trànsit", 2009); at the Yagnam Gallery in Chile (2005) He has been awarded on several occasions: First Prize, Estudis Artistics Sant Cugat Scholarship (2010); Landscape Painting Scholarship, Mondariz-Balneario Foundation, Galicia (2010); Quintanar Palace Scholarship, Segovia (2009); Torres-García Painting Biennial Mention, Mataró; Mention Biennal d'Art de Tarragona (2008). He has participated in "SCOPE Contemporary Art Festival" in New York, and TIAF Toronto International Art Fair, both in 2012, as well as other biennials and collective exhibitions.
