"Dancers."

Pál Fried was a Hungarian artist recognized primarily for his paintings of dancers and female nudes, characterized by a sensual approach and remarkable experimentation with light and movement.
Born in Budapest in 1893, he received his artistic training at the Hungarian Academy of Arts, where he was a student of Hugo Pohl, a decisive figure in his aesthetic development. Under Pohl's tutelage, Fried produced numerous portraits of nude women and works with orientalist themes. Later, he furthered his training in Paris, at the Académie Julian, where he was a disciple of Claude Monet and Lucien Simone. During his stay in the French capital, he was deeply influenced by Impressionism, particularly by the work of Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Edgar Degas, which is reflected in his frequent depictions of dancers, circus performers and show scenes.
In 1946, after World War II, he emigrated to the United States, where he developed a successful career as a portrait painter, even painting prominent figures of American popular culture such as Marilyn Monroe. His skill in portraiture allowed him to achieve considerable economic stability. In 1953 he became a U.S. citizen and lived between Los Angeles and New York City, where he died in 1976.
Fried worked primarily in oils and pastels, mediums that allowed him to explore the dynamic qualities of light and color. Although his recurring subjects were female figures, especially nudes and dancers, he also tackled urban landscapes of Paris, scenes of the American West, seascapes, cowboys and compositions of an orientalist character. Sometimes, he produced multiple versions of the same work, introducing subtle variations in facial expression or in the chromatic range. He signed his works according to Hungarian convention, placing his surname before his first name: "Fried Pál". His production, characterized by a refined technique and a visually appealing approach, reflects a fusion between European academicism and the modern sensibility of the American art market.
