DESCRIPTION

Pair of vases; Japan, Meiji period, c. 1900.
Hand painted porcelain.
One of them has restoration on the base and mouth.
Measurements: 45 x 24 cm (x2).
These vases have a baluster design and are decorated with floral motifs. The Satsuma style, which was very popular in Europe during this period, is characterized by terracotta paste and a wood ash glaze that is often cracked.
The Meiji period marked a time of modernization and westernization in Japan, where art pieces were adapted to European tastes for marketing.
