DESCRIPTION

JOAN RIPOLLÉS (Castellón, 1932).
"Bird of good omen", 1980.
Oil on canvas.

Measurements: 34 x 65 cm; 58 x 69 cm (frame).

In this work Ripollés activates one of the most recognizable nuclei of his imaginary: the coexistence between the playful and the transcendent through characters that seem to emerge from an intimate theater. The scene, far from narrating a specific episode, functions as a metaphor of the artist's emotional universe, where exaggerated gestures, bold color and gentle theatricality construct a space of fabulation. The reclining character, crowned with laurel, can be understood as a domestic hero or even as a symbolic alter ego, representing the creator himself in dialogue with his tutelary figures. In front of him, the festive character and the dove appear as emblems of life, humor and hope, constants in Ripollés' poetics. The work thus synthesizes the essence of his language: a world of fable that, through ingenuous forms and chromatic energy, becomes a celebration of the imagination as a vital force.

Joan García Ripollés (Castellón, 1932) is one of the most internationally renowned Spanish artists, with a consolidated career since the mid-twentieth century. After training in Paris and New York, cities where he defined his own language and gained early recognition, his work has been exhibited in Europe, Asia and America, becoming a creator of reference for his unmistakable iconography and expressive force.
A versatile artist, he has excelled in painting, sculpture and graphic work, and is represented in prestigious institutions such as the IVAM, the MACBA, the Museum of Fine Arts of Seville, the University of Alicante and the MoMA in New York. His wide recognition and sustained presence in the market underscore the collector's interest in his work.
