This work reveals the lively interest of this period for the humanist recovery of classical antiquity. The drawing, probably conceived as a preparatory study, articulates idealized figures whose gestures and dynamism evoke late Renaissance and Baroque models.
In the Italian tradition, mythological representation functioned as a space for creative freedom and as a scholarly exercise: it allowed the exploration of anatomy, movement and human passions under the protection of ancient stories. Thus, this work combines linear elegance and restrained theatricality, showing how mythology becomes a vehicle for reflecting on beauty, heroism and the symbolic dimension of the classical world.
