DESCRIPTION

ANTONI BELLMUNT TRAFACH (Barcelona, 1914-1988).
"Figure, 1972.
Wood
Signed and dated.
Measurements: 120 x 41 x 30 cm.

Carved wood sculpture representing a female figure standing naked, holding bunches of grapes in both hands. The figure adopts a slightly inclined posture, with her legs softly crossed, reinforcing the sensation of grace and serene verticality. The body presents a characteristic volumetric rotundity, with broad and compact forms, but balanced by a purification of lines that brings elegance and structural clarity.
Antoni Bellmunt was a disciple of Antoni Parera and Jaume Otero at the Escola de Llotja in Barcelona. His specialty was portraits, treated with great technique and virtuosity. Much of his work is dedicated to the Balearic Islands. His bust of Juan Carlos I is kept in the Saló de la Reina Regent of the City Hall of Barcelona. He participated in the Municipal Exhibition of Fine Arts of Barcelona in 1951, with the work "Isla de Formentera", which is currently part of the collection of the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC).
