DESCRIPTION

MARTI LLAURADÓ MARISCOT (Barcelona, 1903 - 1957).

Stone.

Measurements: 35 x 108 x 42 cm.

Imposing stone sculpture where Martí Llauradó approaches the theme of female repose with a powerful combination of serenity, formal synthesis and monumentality. The figure, depicted lying on a cushion, is arranged horizontally with a balanced harmony between naturalism and stylization, a characteristic feature of the sculptor's personal language, and the round, compact forms, with well-defined volumes and smoothly polished surfaces, give the piece a solid, almost architectural presence. The artist manages to convey an intense sense of inner calm, underlined by the relaxed expression of the face and the general placidity of the pose, which seems suspended in a timeless instant.

The sculptor Martí Llauradó worked during his youth with Joan Borrell and Joan Rebull, from whom he received important influences. In 1929 he made his debut with his first solo exhibition in Barcelona, together with Joan Commeleran. From then on he continued exhibiting his work and taking part in contests, and in 1933 he was awarded in the Exhibition of the Nude of the Artistic Circle of Barcelona. The following year he obtained the first medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Madrid. In the post-war period he obtained other important awards in cities such as Seville (for religious art), Madrid and Barcelona, and was invited to participate in two editions of the Venice Biennale. Llauradó was a leading figure of the young generation of postnoucentisme, and tempered the stylized idealism of the noucentistes with an accentuation of realism. He is currently represented at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona.
