CLAUDIO CASTELUCHO DIANA (Barcelona, 1870 - Paris, 1927).

Provenance: Claudio Castelucho's workshop in Paris.

Artist belonging to the Spanish school in Paris, Castelucho settled in Montparnasse, where he founded and directed, together with Séller and Danenberg, the academy of La Grande Chaumière. His academy was much frequented by foreign artists, especially Scandinavian, Eastern European and Spanish-speaking artists. Among his disciples were Tamara de Lempicka, Joaquín Peinado, Serra Llimona, Ossip Zadkine, Martí Badenes and Navarro Vives, among many others. His presence in artistic contests dates back to 1897, the year in which he participated in the Salon des Artistes Français with a work entitled "Sevilla". Subsequently, he was a regular participant in the Salon of Fine Arts, as well as the Salon of Autumn (1903), the Salon of the Independents (1904-1914) and the Salon of the Orientalists. Active from the 90's until his death, he combined painting and teaching with an important work as a gallery owner. He exhibited in galleries such as the prestigious Bernheim Jeune, which had on its roster Matisse and Van Dogen and included Castelucho with Bonnard and Edouard Archinard in a group exhibition held in 1917.
