DESCRIPTION

JULES WABBES (Belgium, 1919–1974)
Pair of wall sconces, 1960s.
Brass.
Measurements: 15 x 18 x 20 cm (x2).
Designed around a play of staggered volumes and geometric lines of great purity, these wall sconces stand out for their balance between architectural rigor and formal sophistication. The light, filtered through the overlapping metal planes, creates a warm ambient effect that enhances the simplicity of the composition. Created during the 1960s—one of the designer’s most creative periods—these models illustrate his commitment to structural excellence, the use of high-quality materials, and a timeless aesthetic that remains a benchmark of 20th-century European design.
Jules Wabbes (1919–1974) was one of the leading figures in 20th-century Belgian design. Trained as an architect at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, he soon转向ed his career toward furniture and interior design, a discipline in which he achieved notable recognition. His creations, characterized by clean lines, functionality, and the use of fine woods and materials of the highest quality, became icons of modern design. Throughout his career, he carried out major institutional commissions, including the furnishings for various Belgian embassies and public buildings, cementing a legacy that ranks him among the most prominent figures in postwar European design.
