Created in 1984, this work is linked to one of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s most iconic projects: the wrapping of the Reichstag in Berlin, conceived in 1971 and finally realized in 1995 after more than two decades of negotiations. The installation, which temporarily transformed the historic building by covering it with silver fabric, took on an extraordinary symbolic significance in the context of German reunification. This lithograph reproduces a preparatory study created while Berlin was still divided, combining an urban map of the Reichstag area with a depiction of the wrapped building and various technical annotations. The superimposition of cartographic, architectural, and graphic elements reflects the importance of the planning process in the artists’ work, for whom drawings and collages constituted an essential part of their projects.
Christo and Jeanne-Claude formed one of the most influential creative duos in 20th-century art, internationally recognized for their ephemeral interventions in landscapes, buildings, and public spaces. Among their most notable projects are *Running Fence* (California, 1976), *The Pont Neuf Wrapped* (Paris, 1985), *Wrapped Reichstag* (Berlin, 1995), and *The Gates* (New York, 2005). Their creations transformed perceptions of the environment and challenged the traditional boundaries of sculpture, establishing new relationships between art, architecture, and public space. Their work is represented in institutions such as the National Gallery of Art in Washington and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
