BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Persian rug, ca. 1920.
Wool.
Measurements: 357 x 550 cm.
Persian rug made entirely of wool. It features a reddish field against which a central rosette stands out, from which the floral decoration radiates outward, combining aesthetic patterns that repeat rhythmically. The border consists of three bands featuring friezes with motifs similar to those in the field, with the central band being wider than the others. Complementary colors: beige, brown, white, blue, and green.
The Persian rug is an essential element of Persian art and culture, and its craftsmanship has become an art form in its own right. Rug weaving is one of the highest expressions of Persian culture and art, dating back to the Bronze Age. The luxury associated with Persian rugs is a striking hallmark of their humble beginnings among the nomadic tribes of Persia. The rug was a necessity for protection against the harsh winter. Later, it became a form of artistic expression, largely due to the freedom it afforded in the choice of vivid colors and motifs. The secrets of carpet-making have been passed down from generation to generation. Artisans drew inspiration from insects, plants, roots, bark, and other natural elements. Beginning in the 16th century, carpet-making evolved into a full-fledged art form.

COMMENTS
