BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Large painting of the Ming period. China, 1365-1644.
"Vase."
Oil or tempera on fine canvas (or silk), mounted on wood.
Without restorations.
Measurements: 160 x 111 cm.
During the Ming dynasty, there was a flowering of pictorial genres beyond monumental landscapes. The still life (???, jìngwù huà), and specifically the depiction of studio objects such as flowers in vases, gained much popularity. Our painting shows a vase with flowers in the center, a phoenix bird in each corner and waves at the bottom. Very decorative, with a high degree of detail and good quality.
