"Child's play". Capodimonti, Naples.
Porcelain group.
With manufacturing marks on one side.
Measurements: 28 x 45 x 21 cm.
Porcelain group of the Capodimonte tradition, representing a lively children's scene of costumbrista character.
The composition shows several children playing around a goat, captured in full movement, generating a scene full of dynamism, spontaneity and vitality. The modeling is meticulous, especially in the gestures of the children, their expressive postures and the anatomy of the animal, which acts as the central axis of the scene. The interaction between the figures provides a playful and natural narrative.
Founded in 1743 under the reign of Charles VII of Naples, the future Charles III of Spain, the Royal Porcelain Factory of Capodimonte was born with the aim of emulating the great factory of Meissen, whose patron had been Augustus the Strong, grandfather of Queen Maria Amalia of Saxony. It was, after the Saxon factory, one of the first in Europe to use real porcelain, with kaolin, fired at a temperature varying between 700 and 800°, with a second, higher firing, between 1,400 and 1,500°.
