DESCRIPTION

JOSÉ MARTÍNEZ-MEDINA (Valencia, 1919–2006), for Martínez Medina
“Cáceres” dining table, designed in 1965.
Solid walnut base with polished steel trim and a laminated wood top.
In very good condition. Restored wood.
Measurements: 70 x 130 cm in diameter.

The “Cáceres” table, designed by José Martínez Medina in 1965, soberly embodies the rigor and elegance of modern Spanish furniture. Its circular tabletop, with a clean profile and gently rounded edge, rests on a central walnut base supported by four curved legs, topped with polished steel finials that add a precise and contemporary touch.

The design combines solidity and lightness with great naturalness. The wood lends warmth and depth, while the metal details accentuate the piece’s refined character without disrupting its formal balance. The architecturally constructed central base visually opens up the space beneath the tabletop and facilitates comfortable use around the table.

In 1952, José Martínez-Medina y Montoro, along with his brothers, took over the management of the family business founded by Juan Martínez-Medina, transforming it into a leading name in modern Spanish furniture. The firm solidified its national reputation in the 1960s, with a factory in Valencia and a showroom in Madrid.
