The sculpture "The greatness of Islam" is part of Salvador Dalí's sculptural universe, where surrealist principles are materialized in organic, fluid and metamorphic forms. The piece, of a marked formal dramatism, evokes the symbolic force of Islamic culture through a plastic language that combines the irrational, the oneiric and the allegorical.
Although Dalí was always deeply linked to Christian iconography, his interest in other religions and cosmovisions was constant, attracted by their aesthetic potential and the spiritual charge they contained. This work condenses that fascination, and at the same time reflects his ability to transform cultural references into unrepeatable sculptural structures, capable of dialoguing with historical memory and the subconscious. It is an exceptional example of the way in which Dalí transferred to the three-dimensional realm the same resources of invention, metamorphosis and symbolism that characterize his painting.
About the artist:
Salvador Dalí is one of the most universal and recognized figures of 20th century art. Trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, he soon came into contact with the international avant-garde, establishing a relationship with Picasso, Miró and André Breton's surrealist group in Paris. His first solo exhibition in New York in 1934 consecrated him internationally, initiating a trajectory of worldwide projection that made him a cultural icon beyond painting, extending his influence to sculpture, cinema, literature and design.
Throughout his career, Dalí masterfully explored both academic realism and the most radical surrealism, developing his own unmistakable style, marked by dreamlike images, the theory of the "paranoiac-critical method" and his highly personal iconography (soft watches, metamorphic figures, religious elements and references to science).
His work is represented in world-renowned museums such as the Dalí Theatre-Museum (Figueres), the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg (Florida), the Reina Sofía Museum (Madrid), the Espace Dalí (Paris) and the Dalí Universe (London). In addition, his market is one of the most active in modern art, with a strong international demand and a projection that ensures the validity of his work as a solid and timeless value in the history of art.
